Dear
Reader,
Ever since my parents read me my first fairytale,
I have yearned to be able to visit the intriguing
worlds described in fantasy stories. As a child,
after finishing CS Lewis The Lion,
the Witch and the Wardrobe I found myself
investigating old wardrobes, in case their backs
should turn into secret entrances to another world.
I daydreamed of visiting Tolkiens Middle-Earth.
Later, as an author, I wished that I could enable
my readers to walk through the detailed landscapes
of my fictional world, Tir, as if
those landscapes were real. I wanted readers to
be able to take their time exploring, enjoying
the scenery, listening to the sounds of wind and
water and birdsong, seeing the imaginary places
and characters I write about, in an atmosphere
that was not scary or violent, but exciting and
magical.
After I heard about a marvellous computer game
called Myst my lifelong desire
to visit Other Realms merged with
my curiosity about 3D digital imaging.
Could the realms within my books be created by
harnessing the power of digital media? From Mysts
reputation I knew that the games creators,
Cyan
Worlds, were exactly the people I was looking
for.
I proudly introduce the Demonstration Trailer
(above) for A Glimpse of Tir: Episode 1,
Marshtown and Rowan Green. Not a Game, but
an Experience - a glimpse into a beautiful, interactive,
3D realm. I hope you enjoy it as much as the team
at Cyan Worlds and I enjoyed creating it.
Cecilia Dart-Thornton.
